Correspondence, business papers, legal papers, memoranda, military documents, and materials relating to the education and religion of Antonio Seferino del Valle (1788-1841), who came to California in the Spanish Army in 1819; of his son, Ygnacio (1808-1880), who engaged in the cattle and wine business and held various local and state offices in California; of his grandson Reginaldo F., who was also active in state politics; and of other descendants. The bulk of the papers are from the period 1830-1900. Prominent names mentioned include Jose Carillo, Antonio Coronel, John G. Downey, Juan Forster, Andres Pico, Pio Pico, Ygnacio Sepulveda, and Abel Stearns.

Reginaldo Francisco del Valle (1854-1938) was the son of Ygnacio del Valle (1808-1880), who served as Alcalde of Los Angeles in 1850 and as a state assemblyman in 1852. Reginaldo grew up in Los Angeles and at the family home, Camulous Ranch, in Ventura County. He studied law, was elected to the state assembly (1879) and the state senate (1882), and was a director of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (1927-29).
